Objective:
Work as a team to design and manufacture precision-fit number blocks using CAD/CAM tools and CNC machining. The blocks were required to interlock with neighboring components while meeting strict dimensional and finish standards. We used SolidWorks, Fusion CAM, Tormach CNC Mill and 3D Printing.
Manufacturing Requirements:
Clean surface finish; deburred and washed
Accurate upper and lower thicknesses
Consistent number widths
Centered boss and pocket features
Proper fit: boss must mate with neighboring pocket
Pocket depth ensures flush alignment between blocks
No loose chips, cutting fluid, or mismatched surfaces
Results:
Block met all dimensional and fit specifications.
Successfully interlocked with one team’s block.
One mismatch occurred due to another team’s failure to deburr their pocket.
